Description

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
What is Bacteriostatic Water?
Essential reconstitution solvent for lyophilized peptide research
H₂O
Sterile Water Base
Bacteriostatic water starts with USP-grade sterile water for injection. This pharmaceutical-grade water undergoes rigorous purification and sterilization to meet United States Pharmacopeia standards for injectable solutions.
BA
0.9% Benzyl Alcohol
Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. This prevents bacterial growth after the vial is opened, allowing multiple withdrawals over an extended period — unlike single-use sterile water which must be discarded after opening.
RX
Multi-Use Reconstitution
Designed for reconstituting lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides and other research compounds. The bacteriostatic preservative enables the vial to be used multiple times over 28 days, making it practical for ongoing research protocols.
WHY BACTERIOSTATIC WATER
The Standard for Peptide Reconstitution
Bacteriostatic water is the universal standard for reconstituting lyophilized peptides in research settings. The 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative prevents microbial contamination during repeated use, while the sterile water base ensures compound integrity. It is compatible with virtually all research peptides.

USAGE GUIDE
How to Use Bacteriostatic Water
Standard reconstitution procedure for lyophilized peptides
Reconstitution Steps
Step 1: PreparationClean
Swab the top of both the bacteriostatic water vial and the peptide vial with an alcohol pad. Allow to air dry. Work in a clean environment.
Step 2: Draw WaterMeasure
Using a sterile syringe, draw the desired volume of bacteriostatic water from the vial. Common reconstitution volumes: 1mL or 2mL depending on desired concentration.
Step 3: Add to PeptideGentle
Inject the bacteriostatic water slowly along the inner wall of the peptide vial. Do NOT inject directly onto the lyophilized powder. Allow it to gently run down the side.
Step 4: DissolveSwirl
Gently swirl the vial until the peptide is fully dissolved. Do NOT shake vigorously as this can damage peptide bonds. If not fully dissolved, let it sit for a few minutes and gently swirl again.
Always use proper aseptic technique when handling bacteriostatic water and peptides. Store reconstituted peptides at 2-8°C (refrigerator) and use within 28-30 days.
SAFETY & HANDLING
Safety Information
Benzyl Alcohol Allergy
Individuals with known benzyl alcohol sensitivity should use sterile water for injection instead. Benzyl alcohol allergies are uncommon but should be screened for in research protocols.
Neonatal Precaution
Bacteriostatic water containing benzyl alcohol should not be used in neonatal research models. Benzyl alcohol has been associated with gasping syndrome in neonates. Use preservative-free sterile water instead.
28-Day Use Limit
While benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, the vial should be used within 28 days of first puncture. After 28 days, discard remaining solution and use a fresh vial to maintain sterility.
Storage Requirements
Store unopened vials at room temperature (15-30°C). After first use, store at room temperature or refrigerated (2-8°C). Protect from freezing. Do not use if solution appears cloudy or contains particles.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Bacteriostatic Water in research
What is the difference between bacteriostatic water and sterile water?
Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, allowing multi-dose use for up to 28 days. Sterile water for injection contains no preservative and must be discarded after a single use. Bacteriostatic water is preferred for peptide reconstitution due to its multi-use capability.
How much bacteriostatic water should I add to a peptide vial?
Common reconstitution volumes are 1mL or 2mL, depending on desired concentration. The specific volume depends on your research protocol requirements. Adding more water creates a more dilute (lower concentration) solution.
How long does reconstituted peptide last?
Peptides reconstituted with bacteriostatic water should be stored at 2-8°C (refrigerator) and used within 28-30 days. Some peptides may have shorter stability windows — check individual product recommendations.
Can bacteriostatic water be frozen?
No. Do not freeze bacteriostatic water. Freezing can affect the preservative distribution and container integrity. Store at room temperature (15-30°C) or refrigerated (2-8°C).
Is this product USP grade?
Yes. This bacteriostatic water meets United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards for sterility, pyrogenicity, and benzyl alcohol concentration (0.9%). It is packaged in multi-dose glass vials.
